Bernard Carver

“After spending first twenty years of his life in Beirut, Bernard Carver settles in Paris, where he choses a profession that would allow him to express his love for literature, leaving time to develop his artistic talent. A bouquiniste, Carver starts experimenting with painting his surroundings; all the great monuments of the capital visible from his stand in St. Germain- des-Prets. His experiments soon lead to an unusual use of materials and a play on layering of image. Paris is often sketched in impressionist style pastels then cover by acrylic painted tree-leaves. This intriguing contrast of technique and subject matter add a sense of mystery to Carver’s work, which is further developed through the use of florescent paint and light. The vivid colors of his canvases spark to life in dark spacesgiving an illusion of illumination from within. ”
